About Shirley Weir
Shirley is a bilingual clinician with over 10 years of clinical experience. Shirley focuses her work with adolescents and young adults in a virtual therapy setting. Most of Shirley’s experience is with children and adolescents, but she has previously worked with clients throughout the lifespan in community mental health facilities.
Throughout her career, Shirley has supported clients and their families through a variety of challenges. Shirley has clinical experience in the areas of depression, anxiety, trauma, crisis, panic disorders, psychosis, self-injury, suicidal ideation, anger management, behavioral problems, problems in school, self-esteem, stress management, communication issues, social skills, and emotional dysregulation.
Shirley utilizes an integrative and trauma-informed approach with her clients and focuses on client strengths and resilience to help them produce change and growth. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and implements evidence-based interventions in her treatment with clients. Shirley engages her clients with warmth, compassion, and sensitivity. Her relational style helps clients receive the support and guidance needed to heal while feeling in control of their own treatment. Shirley encourages active participation of a client’s family and support system for clients to make long-term positive changes and transfer their growth outside of the therapeutic setting.
Shirley is grateful for the opportunity to build therapeutic relationships with her clients, hear their stories, and work alongside her clients to help them realize their value and accomplish their goals in therapy. She recognizes that therapy can be hard work and is inspired by the strength and courage it takes for clients to seek help and take steps toward their healing.
Shirley is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Illinois. She obtained a Bachelor degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Christian Counseling from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.
