About Sarah O'Connor

Sarah O’Connor believes that each client has unique issues and challenges in life that require individualized treatment and collaboration. Sarah believes in meeting people where they are in life to assess what the client wants to achieve in their counseling experience and assist in setting appropriate goals. Counseling is a process that utilizes your strengths, the clinical relationship, and evidence-based techniques to help relieve symptoms, increase self-esteem and feelings of emotional well-being. Sarah believes that when an individual chooses mental health counseling and being vulnerable, they have already taken a huge step towards a better life. Sarah will welcome you with respect, empathy, flexibility, warmth, acceptance, compassion, and humor to make this transition into counseling smooth.

Sarah uses a variety of approaches in the therapy process as not one approach works for every issue or client. Sarah enjoys approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Humanistic Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help people manage and overcome mental and emotional issues.

Sarah O’Connor graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Psychology and Lewis University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Studies. During this time, Sarah worked full-time with clients of various backgrounds in community mental health, gaining experience in assessing client’s needs and helping them set realistic goals for bringing forth this positive change. Also, Sarah spent her internship at Central DuPage Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services inpatient programming helping individuals struggling with long-term addictions issues and mental health concerns. Here, she learned the importance of a holistic approach to counseling which addresses the physical, emotional, social, behavioral, and spiritual well-being of individuals.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, painting, reading, spending time with her dog, and watching bad reality television.
