Michaela Zoppa is a compassionate therapist who is dedicated to helping children, teens, and adults navigate life's obstacles and discover a greater sense of purpose, meaning, and hope. Her clinical expertise covers a range of areas including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, body image, stress management, social skills, spirituality, and relationships. She has expertise in working with children over 10 years old, teens, and young adults, having gained prior experience in a community mental health agency and a private practice.
Michaela’s counseling philosophy is grounded in the belief that every person has inherent worth and dignity. She admires the vulnerability of her clients in the counseling journey, and she strives to create a welcoming space where clients feel supported, understood, and valued for who they are. Through building a trusting therapeutic relationship, Michaela works with her clients to promote healing and growth, empowering them to find hope and meaning in their lives.
Michaela collaborates with her clients to identify their strengths, explore their values and goals, and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their unique needs. Drawing from a range of evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing, Michaela helps clients manage symptoms, regulate emotions, and cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness. Michaela is certified in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and remains informed on the latest research and evidence-based practices.
Michaela holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wheaton College. Michaela was born and raised in Texas before moving to Illinois to pursue her education and training at Wheaton College.
In addition to counseling, Michaela enjoys cooking, reading, playing with her dog, and spending time outside with her husband.
