Dr. Andrew Beatty is a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience assisting adults and adolescents with life, work, and health-related issues. He specializes in the field of health psychology with an emphasis on the management of chronic pain and illness. Dr. Beatty believes that “feeling sick” provides an ideal opportunity for individuals to recognize that there is something more going on. Therapy can help discover underlying behavioral health concerns that may be manifesting through physical symptoms or pain. However, Dr. Beatty encourages individuals to be proactive with their behavioral health before physical manifestations develop. His approach is compassionate, supportive, and collaborative. He enjoys helping clients identify what best meets their needs in order to facilitate personal growth and wellness. His goal is to help clients feel good by developing and learning to refine their abilities to best understand and manage their lives.
When working with clients with chronic illness Dr. Beatty provides insight on how psychological factors like anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or other clinical concerns may impact the physical body. Dr. Beatty collaborates with his clients to develop coping mechanisms to best manage pain and advocate for themselves. Dr. Beatty has found that individuals and caregivers/dependents of those who are considering Bariatric Surgery or coping with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Fibromyalgia, Functional Neurological Disorder, Headache Conditions, (Migraine, Cluster, Tension-Type), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Multiple Sclerosis, Pain Management, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures, Psychological Factors Affecting General Medical Conditions, Somatoform Disorders, and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ), have benefited and experienced relief from engaging in therapy as part of their treatment plan.
Dr. Beatty completed his internship and fellowship through the Isaac Ray Center/Cermak Health Services of Cook County at Rush University Medical Center. He holds academic appointments at Midwestern University/ Department of Behavioral Sciences and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association. Dr. Beatty has professional experience in many settings including outpatient private practices, psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities, skilled nursing facilities, subacute rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and medical centers.
Dr. Beatty previously served for seven years as the Director of Behavioral Medicine at a Chicagoland hospital with the largest single-site pain management program for headache patients which saw 20,000 headache patients annually from all parts of the world. He also has extensive experience in the supervision, teaching, and clinical training of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and has supervised over 50 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows throughout his career.
