Karen Beckstrand, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Karen Beckstrand is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, college students, and couples. Her professional experience covers a wide range of settings including out-patient and hospital, grade school through college.
She enjoys working with people who would like support and guidance as they face transitions in their lives or those who are facing challenges and obstacles, such as moving, job changes, retirement, becoming an empty-nester, or dealing with divorce. She has a great deal of experience working with professionals and executives.
Feeling “stuck” or engaging in self-defeating actions can be a catalyst for change. “I believe we all follow patterns that have been taught to us, and therapy examines those teachings and patterns and brings them into focus. Together we can target values and choices, work to develop awareness, and choose new behaviors and perspectives.”
Her approach is positive, forward-focused, goal-oriented, specific, and practical. “I often use assignments. I have noticed that my clients frequently bring notebooks and take notes during our sessions. It is common to discuss at the close of a session what will be worked on before our next meeting to maximize the time between appointments. Either I will ask my client, or they will ask me, what should be the focus of the next week so that they can stay on task.” Those seeking a deeper understanding of who they are, what they stand for, and how they can achieve the most out of life tend to enjoy this process and look forward to participating in therapy.
